Zia Yusuf, born in 1986 in Bellshill, Scotland, has emerged as a significant figure in British politics, currently serving as a key leader within Reform UK, a right-wing populist political party.

In a series of rapid developments, Yusuf has been appointed as the head of Reform UK’s Department of Government Efficiency since June 2025, following his brief resignation and swift return to the party. His new executive position encompasses responsibilities over policy development, fundraising, media strategy, and leading the party’s efficiency initiatives.

From Business Success to Political Influence

Yusuf’s journey began in the business world, where he co-founded Velocity Black, a luxury concierge app, in 2014. The venture proved highly successful, culminating in its sale in 2023 for £233 million, with Yusuf personally earning an estimated £31 million.

His transition to politics has been marked by significant achievements. As a major financial supporter of Reform UK, Yusuf contributed £200,000 during the 2024 general election campaign. Under his leadership, the party’s membership has grown impressively to nearly 200,000, surpassing the Conservative Party, and achieved a remarkable 24% support in February 2025 YouGov polls, leading both Labour and the Conservatives.

Recent Controversies and Future Outlook

After taking over from Richard Tice MP as party chairman, Yusuf pledged to professionalise the growing party. Despite a brief resignation drama three months ago, he has returned with renewed purpose, taking on an Elon Musk-inspired role. The tech entrepreneur is now also focused on preparing the party for government, with potential general election prospects as early as 2027.

However, his leadership style has not been without controversy. His top-down approach has generated internal friction, exemplified by the March 2025 suspension of MP Rupert Lowe following alleged verbal threats. This incident has led to accusations from some party members, including former deputy leader Ben Habib, of stifling dissent and undermining the party’s grassroots foundation.

Describing himself as a “British Muslim patriot,” Yusuf maintains a relatively low public profile regarding his personal life. His influence is expected to continue shaping both luxury services and political discourse in the UK for years to come.
