A Classic Tale Reimagined

Emily Brontë’s only novel, Wuthering Heights, originally published in 1847, tells the story of two families living on the West Yorkshire moors – the Earnshaws and the Lintons – and their turbulent relationships with the Earnshaws’ foster son, Heathcliff.

Star-Studded Production

The latest adaptation, helmed by director Emerald Fennell, promises to be more Bridgerton than Downton Abbey, featuring the magnetic pairing of Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi in the lead roles. Robbie takes on the role of Catherine Earnshaw, a young woman torn between her first love and social status, while Elordi portrays Heathcliff. The supporting cast includes Shazad Latif as Edgar Linton, Alison Oliver as Isabella Linton, and Hong Chau as Nelly Dean.

Behind the Scenes

Principal photography took place in the United Kingdom from January to April 2025, with filming locations including Sky Studios Elstree and the scenic Yorkshire Dales, specifically Arkengarthdale and Swaledale valleys. The film features an original score by Anthony Willis, with popular artist Charli XCX contributing original songs.

Controversy and Anticipation

The first glimpse of the adaptation has sharply divided Emily Brontë enthusiasts, with Fennell’s take on the classic receiving a steamy transformation that some worry significantly deviates from the beloved novel. The casting has also sparked controversy among longtime fans of the book, who have noted that Elordi’s casting as Heathcliff contrasts with Brontë’s original description of the character as non-white.

Release and Expectations

The film is scheduled for a Valentine’s Day theatrical release. It marks another collaboration between Emerald Fennell, the visionary behind the Oscar-winning Promising Young Woman and Saltburn, and Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap.
