Originally constructed in 1938, this Grade II listed building, renowned worldwide for its exceptional acoustics, has undergone a comprehensive modernization as part of the Town Hall Quarter regeneration project.

The ambitious refurbishment has introduced numerous improvements, including a brand-new stage and lighting rigs to accommodate a wider range of performances. The project has also delivered a complete bar refurbishment, enhanced accessibility features, upgraded wayfinding, and extensive interior renovations throughout the venue.

The 40,000 square-foot space, now managed by AEG Presents on behalf of Watford Borough Council, is positioned to become a world-class entertainment venue. The reopening is expected to significantly boost the local economy by creating new jobs, increasing tourism, and revitalizing the night-time economy.

AEG Presents has already announced an exciting lineup of inaugural performances, featuring artists such as Ocean Colour Scene with P.P. Arnold, Jake Bugg, The Stranglers, and David Essex, with more acts to be revealed. The venue will offer a diverse mix of top-tier national talent while maintaining its commitment to local community use.

Economic and Cultural Impact

The revitalization of Watford Colosseum represents a crucial milestone in Watford’s Town Hall Quarter regeneration, forming part of an ambitious 10-year programme comprising eight interlinked projects designed to bring investment, culture, and opportunity to Watford’s heart.

The refurbishment has carefully preserved the venue’s world-class acoustics while updating the building to meet modern standards. Special attention has been paid to maintaining the historic fabric, including the timber panelling and Art Deco façade, while bringing the venue up to contemporary benchmarks for functionality and sustainability.
