A Groundbreaking Start in the NFL

Former Colorado Buffaloes star Travis Hunter made his highly anticipated NFL debut with the Jacksonville Jaguars in their 26-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, September 7, 2025.

College Career and Historic Achievements

Hunter, selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, made history as the highest drafted cornerback and second-highest drafted wide receiver in NFL history. His college career was nothing short of extraordinary, as he became the most decorated player in college football history, winning the Heisman Trophy, Walter Camp Award, and both the AP and Sporting News Player of the Year honors.

In his final collegiate season, Hunter showcased his exceptional versatility by recording 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns, setting new CU records for receiving touchdowns. He demonstrated his defensive prowess with 36 tackles, four interceptions, and 11 pass breakups, while leading the FBS with an impressive 1,483 snaps.

NFL Debut and Future Outlook

In his NFL debut, Hunter primarily featured as a wide receiver, with Coach Liam Coen suggesting that more defensive playing time might come as the rookie season progresses. His unique position as a two-way player sets him apart in NFL history, with his college average of 111.5 snaps per game far exceeding the typical player’s workload – no other college player has averaged more than 78 snaps per game since at least 2015.

Academic Excellence

Beyond his athletic achievements, Hunter was also named the Academic All-American Team Member of the Year for Division I football, becoming the first player in CU history to be named both a unanimous first-team All-American and first-team Academic All-American.
