Tour de France 2025: Pogačar’s Fourth Victory Marks Era of Dominance in Cycling’s Greatest Race

Historic Achievement in Paris
The 112th edition of the Tour de France, which began in Lille on July 5 and concluded in Paris on July 27, saw UAE Team Emirates XRG’s Tadej Pogačar claim his fourth Tour de France victory. This triumph puts him in an elite category as only the sixth rider in history to win four Tour titles.
Route and Race Highlights
In a notable departure from recent years, the 2025 Tour was raced entirely within French borders for the first time in five years. The race took an anti-clockwise route from the northern city of Lille, through Normandy and Brittany, before heading south and returning to Paris.
Covering an impressive distance of 3,320 kilometres with 52,500 metres of climbing, the route featured 7 flat stages, 6 hilly stages, 6 mountain stages with five summit finishes, and 2 individual time trials.
Decisive Moments and Final Standings
Pogačar’s path to victory began taking shape after winning the fourth stage to Rouen and placing second in the first individual time trial. He further solidified his lead by winning the seventh stage to Mûr-de-Bretagne and dominated in the Pyrenees, particularly on the first mountain stage to Hautacam.
In the final general classification, Jonas Vingegaard finished second, 4 minutes and 24 seconds behind Pogačar, while Florian Lipowitz secured third place, 11 minutes behind the winner. Notably, Lipowitz’s podium finish marked the first time a German rider has achieved this feat since Andreas Klöden in 2006.
New Features and Future Impact
The race concluded with an innovative finale in Paris featuring three ascents of Montmartre, where Tadej Pogačar successfully defended his crown against strong competition from the world’s best cyclists. The event maintained its prestigious status with a total prize pool of €2.3 million, distributed across various classifications including stage wins, jersey classifications, combativity, and team results.
