Tony Hudgell: From Survivor to Award-Winning Child Protection Advocate

Recognition for Outstanding Child Advocacy
The Tony Hudgell Foundation has achieved a significant milestone in 2025, being named winner of the Non-Profit Organisation Awards and receiving recognition as the ‘Best Abuse-Affected Children’s Support NPO 2025’ in the UK.
A Journey of Inspiration
Tony’s remarkable journey began in 2020 when, at just five years old, he embarked on a mission to raise £509 for the Evelina Children’s Hospital – the institution that had saved his life as a six-week-old infant. His extraordinary impact was recognized in January 2024 when he became the youngest person ever to be included in the New Year Honours List, receiving a British Empire Medal for his services to the prevention of child abuse.
Legislative Impact and Charitable Work
The Tony Hudgell Foundation works tirelessly to improve the lives of children affected by physical, emotional, and psychological abuse. His advocacy led to a significant legal reform known as “Tony’s Law,” which strengthened sentences for those convicted of child cruelty and neglect.
Recent Achievements
In his latest endeavor, Tony conquered Orrest Head in the Lake District, successfully climbing over 120 meters in height and raising substantial funds for charity. In a recent act of generosity, he donated £30,000 to The Children’s Hospital Charity in appreciation for the exceptional care he received during his life-changing surgery at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.
Lasting Impact
Tony’s fundraising efforts have had a tangible impact, with £500,000 being allocated to Evelina London’s new Children’s Day Surgery Unit. This facility, featuring two state-of-the-art operating theatres, has increased capacity to treat an additional 2,300 children annually. His journey continues to demonstrate what’s possible with proper support, as he maintains his role inspiring others through ongoing fundraising and campaigning efforts.
