The Paper: Office Universe Expands with Fresh Take on Local Journalism

A New Chapter in The Office Universe
The Paper, which premiered on September 4, 2025, on Peacock, introduces viewers to a fresh narrative set in the same universe as The Office. The series follows a documentary crew’s new project as they document the staff at an Ohio-based newspaper called the Toledo Truth-Teller.
The series chronicles a struggling newspaper’s innovative approach to survival, as the publisher recruits volunteer reporters to keep the presses running. The show captures the familiar mix of dysfunction, awkwardness, and heart that made its predecessor famous.
Star-Studded Cast and Creative Team
The series comes from an impressive creative team, including executive producers Greg Daniels, Michael Koman, Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, and Ben Silverman. Daniels, who co-created the U.S. version of The Office and Parks and Recreation, developed the series with Michael Koman, known for Nathan For You.
The cast is led by Domhnall Gleeson as Ned Sampson, the new editor-in-chief, and Sabrina Impacciatore as Esmeralda Grand, the managing editor of both the Toledo Truth-Teller and TTT Online. The newsroom ensemble includes Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Ramona Young, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, and Tim Key.
Early Success and Future Prospects
The series has already garnered attention with an impressive 83% average Tomatometer rating and 73% average audience score from 66 reviews. In a vote of confidence, Peacock has already renewed the series for a second season ahead of its premiere.
Maintaining continuity with The Office, the same fictional documentary crew that documented Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is now embedded at The Truth Teller. Fans will be delighted to see Oscar Nuñez reprising his role as Oscar Martinez, now working in the newspaper’s accounting department.
