The Office Returns: New Spinoff ‘The Paper’ Brings Fresh Take on Workplace Comedy

A New Chapter in The Office Universe
After multiple failed spinoff attempts, ‘The Office’ fans can finally celebrate as a new series titled ‘The Paper’ is officially set to premiere on Peacock this September.
The series, created by Greg Daniels, the mastermind behind the U.S. version of The Office, will follow the same documentary crew that filmed Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch as they embark on a new project.
Fresh Setting, Familiar Face
Set in Toledo, Ohio, the series focuses on the Toledo Truth-Teller, a historic but declining Midwestern newspaper attempting to resurrect itself with volunteer reporters. Oscar Nuñez returns as the prickly accountant Oscar Martinez, but with a twist – he’ll be working under a new boss, the idealistic editor-in-chief Ned Sampson (Domhnall Gleeson), who stands in stark contrast to his former boss Michael Scott.
Star-Studded New Cast
The ensemble cast includes notable talents such as Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore (White Lotus), Melvin Gregg (American Vandal), Chelsea Frei (Poker Face), Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever), Gbemisola Ikumelo (Black Ops), Alex Edelman (Just for Us), and Tim Key (The Witchfinder).
Future Prospects
The series has already been renewed for a second season ahead of its premiere, though creator Greg Daniels acknowledges the challenges ahead, noting that ‘the notion of doing some follow-up to The Office is very fraught with danger’ as fans are notably protective of the original series. The first four episodes will debut on September 4, 2025, followed by two new episodes every Thursday through September 25.
As the creators emphasize, ‘The Paper’ is designed to be more of a spiritual successor than a direct offshoot of ‘The Office,’ marking 20 years since the original show’s debut with a fresh take on workplace documentary storytelling.
