Dominant Victory for Texas Longhorns

Arch Manning threw for four touchdowns and ran for another as No. 7 Texas rebounded from their season-opening loss to defeat San Jose State 38-7 on Saturday.

The game started promisingly for the Spartans in front of more than 100,000 fans at Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium. SJSU managed to contain Texas, the preseason No. 1 team in the nation, forcing two consecutive three-and-outs, with the Longhorns managing only 14 yards on their first two drives.

Manning’s Breakthrough Performance

Manning completed 19 of 30 passes for 295 yards, including a spectacular 83-yard touchdown pass to Parker Livingstone, marking the longest pass play for the Longhorns since 2017. He also showcased his mobility with a 20-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Livingstone had an outstanding game, finishing with four catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns, while tight end Jack Endries also secured two touchdown receptions in the first half.

Defensive Dominance and Turnover Battle

The final score of 38-7 reflected Texas’s dominance, with San Jose State (0-2 overall) struggling as 36.5-point underdogs against the Longhorns (1-1), following their disappointing season-opening loss to Central Michigan.

While Texas displayed impressive offensive prowess with 472 total yards and forced four San Jose turnovers, head coach Steve Sarkisian noted some concerns, describing the team’s performance as “two steps forward, one step back” due to 12 penalties for 115 yards.

Looking Ahead

The Longhorns will look to maintain their momentum as they prepare to host UTEP on September 13, while San Jose State will face Idaho on September 20.
