St Neots’ Historic Market Square Transformation Heralds New Era for Cambridgeshire’s Growing Town

Major Town Centre Regeneration Reaches Final Stages
A multi-million pound renovation of St Neots town centre, which began in January 2024, is approaching completion in early summer 2025. The town’s Market Square is being transformed with expanded pedestrian areas, new disabled parking spaces, and the creation of a dedicated community space.
The ambitious project represents a total investment of £15 million, with funding from multiple sources including £3.1 million from the Combined Authority’s Future High Street Fund and support from Huntingdonshire District Council, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities, Cambridgeshire County Council and National Highways.
Sustainable Development and Growth
The town continues to expand with significant developments, including the completion of the Loves Farm development and the ongoing Wintringham development. Additional developments are planned to provide office space, shop units, and a large food store. Phase 2 of the Wintringham scheme is set to commence in late 2025.
In a significant step towards sustainability, St Neots Fire Station is undergoing renovation to become the county’s first carbon-neutral facility, featuring heat pumps, solar panels, and electrical charging bays. The station’s improvements include extensions providing new gym facilities, office space, and welfare facilities.
Community and Infrastructure
Infrastructure improvements include enhancements to Huntingdon Street crossroads and Church Walk crossing, along with resurfacing work on the High Street and New Street. The renovated Market Square will continue to host markets and events, supported by new electrical systems.
St Neots maintains its position as a key town in Cambridgeshire, combining excellent transport links and a thriving local economy while preserving its unique character and heritage. New digital information kiosks are being installed to improve visitor experience and connect people with local business services.
