Major Changes at Sky News UK

Sky News, owned by British media and telecommunications conglomerate Sky Group (a Comcast division), continues to maintain its reputation for comprehensive reporting from its London headquarters. The broadcaster has recently undergone significant changes in its editorial approach and coverage policies.

Editorial Policy Adjustments

Following more than 5,000 complaints received in just three days, Sky News has implemented important changes to its coverage policies. The network has strengthened its editorial control, particularly in its political coverage, ensuring more balanced reporting by including government responses to political claims.

Expansion of Sports Coverage

In a significant development, Sky Sports will increase its Premier League coverage from 128 to at least 215 matches per season from 2025/26. The expanded coverage will include more than 140 weekend matches, evening fixtures on Fridays and Mondays, full coverage of three midweek match rounds, and for the first time, all 10 Premier League matches on the final day of each season.

Corporate and Infrastructure Changes

The company has announced a significant restructuring in March 2025, including the closure of customer call centres in Stockport, Sheffield and Leeds, resulting in approximately 2,000 job losses and a 7% workforce reduction. Additionally, Sky UK has implemented an average annual price increase of 6.2% for its services, effective from April 2025.

International Reach and Future Prospects

Sky News has maintained its global presence, with Sky News International available in 138 countries through broadcast, satellite transmission, and streaming services. The network operates Sky News Arabia in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Media Investment Corporation, while Sky News International broadcasts the UK channel directly to international audiences, albeit without British advertisements.
