Seaside Success: Skegness’s Remarkable Renaissance

Skegness has defied expectations in 2025 by securing a coveted position among the UK’s greatest beach destinations, backed by a substantial £20 million government investment to enhance local infrastructure.

Major Developments Transform the Resort

The seaside town recently celebrated the opening of a brand new 80-room Travelodge hotel, marking the company’s 600th UK property and first presence in this popular Lincolnshire resort. The development has created over 20 new jobs for the local community.

Demonstrating a commitment to sustainability, the new hotel achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating and an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of A, featuring innovative technologies such as air source heat pumps for hot water generation and energy-efficient lighting systems.

Tourism and Economic Impact

The resort’s popularity continues to soar, with Skegness now ranking as the fourth busiest resort in England, attracting over 4 million visitors annually and contributing significantly to East Lindsey’s visitor economy, which is valued at over £824m.

The town has earned top spot in the East of England’s beach rankings, garnering recognition for its wide sandy shores, convenient location, and blend of nostalgic and modern attractions that appeal to various visitor demographics.

Future Prospects

Looking ahead, ongoing regeneration efforts led by East Lindsey District Council and supported by Town Deal funding have facilitated the construction of the Station Leisure and Learning Centre and a Campus for Future Living. Additional investments aim to revitalize the High Street, enhance public spaces, and improve coastal connectivity.

The focus on East of England beaches comes at an opportune time as domestic tourism continues to grow. With more travelers choosing UK staycations over international travel, tourism boards and local authorities are increasing promotion of coastal destinations while supporting conservation efforts and sustainable tourism initiatives.
