Scotland’s Packed 2025 Schedule: Nations League Playoffs and World Cup Qualification Campaign

Scotland’s Critical Year Ahead
Steve Clarke’s Scotland team faces a defining year in 2025 with 10 crucial fixtures spread across five international windows. The schedule features an even split of five home and five away matches, as they aim to retain their Nations League A status while pursuing World Cup qualification.
Nations League and Summer Friendlies
Following their recent journey in the Nations League, which saw them secure a narrow 1-0 first leg victory in Piraeus, Scotland faced disappointment when goals from Giannis Konstantelias, Konstantinos Koulierakis and Christos Tzolis ended their hopes at Hampden.
The team will face Iceland and Liechtenstein in June friendly matches. Iceland will visit Hampden Park on June 6, followed by an away fixture against Liechtenstein in Vaduz on June 9. Scotland holds an impressive record against Iceland, having won all six previous meetings, with the last three resulting in 2-1 victories. They’ve also won both previous encounters with Liechtenstein.
World Cup Qualification Campaign
The crucial World Cup qualification campaign begins in September, with Scotland drawn into Group C alongside Greece, Belarus and either Portugal or Denmark. These matches will determine Scotland’s fate in reaching the 2026 tournament, which will be jointly hosted by USA, Canada and Mexico.
The qualification journey starts with two away matches in September, followed by a significant home double-header in October. The team will host Greece in Glasgow on October 9, before welcoming Belarus to Hampden for their first visit in 20 years on October 12.
