Recent Success and Recognition

Ruth Jones has achieved remarkable success in 2025, winning the BAFTA Award for Best Female Comedy Performance for her role as Nessa in Gavin & Stacey. Her outstanding contribution was further recognized when she received the First Minister’s Special Award at the St David Awards.

New Ventures and Projects

In an exciting development, Jones has partnered with James Corden for a new Apple TV+ series titled ‘The Choir’. The pair will star as siblings Ben and Lisa, who haven’t seen each other for years. The story follows Ben’s return to their small English town after living abroad, forced to confront a life he left behind.

The eight-part comedy drama will begin filming next year, with production likely involving Fulwell Entertainment. This new venture follows the tremendous success of Gavin & Stacey’s finale, which was 2024’s most-watched TV show in the UK, drawing more than 20 million viewers on Christmas day.

Literary Success and Public Appearances

Jones is currently promoting her new book ‘By Your Side’ and will be appearing at the Parabola Arts Centre in Cheltenham on Monday 26 May 2025, where she will be in conversation with fellow author Hannah Beckerman. Her impressive literary career includes several Sunday Times bestsellers, including ‘Us Three’, ‘Love Untold’, and ‘Never Greener’.

Cultural Impact and Recognition

Jones’s contribution to Welsh culture has been particularly significant, with critics noting that through her character Nessa in Gavin and Stacey, she has given Welsh people ‘permission to laugh at ourselves’ and helped build national confidence. Her work has been credited with putting Wales on the map more effectively than anyone else in decades.
