Breaking New Ground in Women’s Football

Everton Women have completed a landmark signing by securing Ruby Mace from Leicester City in a club-record transfer deal. While the exact figure remains undisclosed, the final fee reportedly exceeded the £100,000 bid that was initially rejected earlier in the transfer window.

A Rising Star’s Journey

Born in Upminster, London Borough of Havering, Mace’s football journey began at just three years old, inspired by watching her older brother play. Her talent became evident early on, as she started playing competitively by age 5 and joined the Arsenal Academy at seven.

Her rise to prominence culminated in her first senior England call-up in November 2024, making history as Leicester City’s first women’s player to receive the honour. She made her international debut against Switzerland in a 1-0 victory.

Impact at Leicester and Future Prospects

During her time at Leicester City, Mace played a crucial role in helping the team achieve a club-record points tally in the Barclays Women’s Super League last season. Upon joining Everton, Mace expressed her excitement about the move, stating, “It is a great feeling to join Everton. I feel so at home here, the girls are lovely. Everyone is just backing everyone and I just can’t wait to get started on the pitch.”

Looking Ahead

Mace could potentially make her debut in the Merseyside Derby against Liverpool on September 7th, as the Women’s Super League season kicks off on September 5th with champions Chelsea facing Manchester City.
