Rate My Takeaway’s Danny Malin Steps Down: The End of a YouTube Food Review Era
A Surprising Departure
YouTube star Danny Malin has officially announced his departure from the hit channel ‘Rate My Takeaway’ after years of setting up his table and chair at hundreds of takeaway spots worldwide.
The decision comes as a shock to many fans, especially considering the channel’s immense success, having grown into one of the UK’s most popular YouTube channels with over 500 million views and nearly 800,000 subscribers.
Health and Behind-the-Scenes Challenges
The decision was prompted by “challenges behind the scenes” that have affected Malin’s health. The YouTuber revealed he had experienced two strokes 18 months ago, which “put life into perspective.” Despite his emotional attachment to the role, Malin felt it was time to “re-establish” himself.
In a candid revelation on his Mr and Mrs Yorkshire channel, Malin explained that while he loves food reviewing and interacting with his audience, internal challenges have taken their toll. He disclosed that despite being equal partners with his editor and cameraman in terms of payment, he hasn’t had equal access to the channel’s social media or YouTube platform.
Legacy and Future Plans
Malin became beloved for his bubbly personality and boundless optimism, with his content proving particularly popular during the Covid pandemic, leading to him winning YouTube’s UK Breakthrough Creator of the Year Award 2021.
Looking ahead, Malin will continue creating content on his other YouTube channel with his wife, Sophie Mei Lan, help run the Rate My Takeaway kitchen food hall in Huddersfield, and focus on his health and family life.
In a message to his loyal followers, Malin assured: “The fans have been amazing, and stuck by me. I will keep creating content so I hope you will all continue to join me for my journey.”
