The airport will create an entire ecosystem of offices, shops, educational centres, and medical facilities. The world-class infrastructure coupled with smooth connectivity will encourage MNCs to set up their offices around Panvel and neighbouring areas.
In the transportation sector, Mumbai’s underground Metro system continues to expand, with the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro (Metro 3) making significant progress. The 12.69 km stretch from Bandra Kurla Complex to Aarey Colony is already operational, and by March 2025, the line will extend to Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli, with the entire 33.5 km corridor to Cuffe Parade expected to be completed later in the year.
Road Infrastructure and Connectivity
A new southbound bridge along Thane Creek is expected to open in 2025, complementing the northbound bridge that was inaugurated in October 2024. These bridges are vital connectors between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The coastal road, a 22-km long freeway connecting Marine Lines in the South to Kandivli in the north, with an estimated cost of 12,000 crores, will reduce travel time from western suburbs to South Mumbai from two hours to just 40 minutes.
