Manchester City’s Pursuit of Tino Livramento Meets Newcastle United’s Resistance
Transfer Saga Intensifies
Manchester City are growing in confidence they can sign Tino Livramento despite Newcastle United being certain that the full-back is ‘not for sale’. The situation has developed into one of the summer’s most intriguing transfer sagas.
Rising Star’s Impressive Journey
After Newcastle paid Southampton an initial £32m with potential add-ons of £8m, Livramento has excelled in these last two years, becoming first choice right-back and proving exceptional at left-back as well in the final three months of the 2024/25 season.
His stock has risen further after winning the U21 European Championships with England in the summer of 2025, where he played a crucial role in the team’s success, starting in the quarter-final victory over Spain and semi-final win against Netherlands, before playing every minute of the final as England defeated Germany after extra time to lift the trophy.
City’s Determination
City’s current right-back options include Rico Lewis and Abdukodir Khusanov, while Manuel Akanji and John Stones can also play in that position. However, with 35-year-old Kyle Walker set to join a new club, City’s new director of football, Hugo Viana, is eager to prise Livramento away from Newcastle to future-proof the right-back position.
Newcastle’s Response
The Times reports that Newcastle are preparing a new contract offer that could extend Livramento’s stay until June 2031. Newcastle United are willing to let Livramento join Manchester City only if they meet the £80 million asking price, though Eddie Howe is keen to retain the right-back.
Future Prospects
Should City miss out on Livramento, they will be forced to explore alternative right-back targets, with the club showing interest in Juventus duo Andrea Cambiaso and Nicolo Savona, plus Flamengo star Wesley.
