A New Chapter in Jazz-Pop Innovation

Laufey, the Iceland-born 26-year-old singer and multi-instrumentalist, has been on an remarkable journey since her 2021 EP ‘Typical of Me’. Her 2023 album ‘Bewitched’ marked a significant breakthrough, earning her a Grammy Award for best traditional pop vocal album. Her recent performance at Coachella with the LA Phil, where she performed her hit ‘From the Start’ and new single ‘Silver Lining’, showcased her growing prominence in the music industry.

Breaking New Ground

Released on August 22, 2025, through Vingolf Recordings and AWAL, ‘A Matter of Time’ represents a significant evolution in Laufey’s artistry. The album marks a departure from her previous focus on jazz preservation, instead exploring a more vulnerable and emotionally expressive side. Working with longtime producer Spencer Stewart and Aaron Dessner of The National, Laufey has created a sound that balances emotional depth with broader musical influences, addressing themes such as friendship breakups, apprehension about love, and personal introspection.

Critical Success and Commercial Achievement

What makes Laufey’s success particularly noteworthy is her unique ability to bring jazz and classical music into the pop realm for a mainstream Gen Z audience in an unprecedented way. The album has achieved remarkable success, becoming the highest-charting jazz album in seven years.

Personal Evolution

“The world has come to know me as this fairly soft-spoken, buttoned-up girl that dances down the street with ribbons in her hair, and I totally am that, but I also can be angry and anxious as well,” explains Laufey. At 26, the Grammy winner is embracing this darker side in her new 14-track collection, which she describes as her “most daring project” yet.

Looking Ahead

Fans can look forward to seeing Laufey perform at various concerts and festivals across North and South America throughout 2025, including special collaborations with symphony orchestras. Her upcoming performances include shows in Mexico City on May 27 and at the Popload Festival in São Paulo on May 31.
