A Rising Star’s Continued Ascent

Manchester City’s star striker Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw is set to don the prestigious number 9 jersey for the 2025/26 Barclays Women’s Super League season, marking a significant change from the ‘Bunny 21’ jersey she’s worn since joining the club four seasons ago.

The Jamaican international’s career at City has been nothing short of remarkable, with an impressive tally of 91 goals in 106 games, making her the club’s all-time leading scorer. Her excellence is further demonstrated by consecutive WSL Golden Boot wins in the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons.

Recent Achievements and Recognition

Adding to her growing list of accolades, Shaw has recently received the prestigious Cyrille Regis Award at the Football Black List awards. This distinguished honor, named after the pioneering former West Bromwich Albion forward, recognizes outstanding contributions to both the Black Community and football over the past year.

Her exceptional performance in 2024 earned her multiple honors, including PFA, FWA, and WSL Player of the Year awards. She also made history by becoming the first City player to win the league’s Golden Boot award and secured her place in the WSL Team of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Looking Ahead

As the team prepares for the upcoming season, Shaw has expressed excitement about working under new leadership: “It’s a new coach, a different system, a different style of play. I am just excited to get the season going and see how well we do.” Her prowess is well-documented, holding the record for most goals scored in a single season (2022/23) with 31 goals in 30 appearances.

With Shaw being arguably the best striker the WSL has to offer, the new management must maximize this special privilege to its fullest potential, potentially setting up what could be a memorable title race.
