The Evolution of a Tennis Partnership

Juan Carlos Ferrero has been working with Carlos Alcaraz since 2019, and their partnership has yielded remarkable results, including 20 ATP Tour titles and five Grand Slam championships—the 2022 U.S. Open, Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024, and the French Open in 2024 and 2025.

In a significant development for 2025, Ferrero’s role is evolving with the addition of veteran coach Samuel Lopez to the team. While Ferrero won’t travel to all tournaments going forward, he remains the primary coach. Lopez, who guided Pablo Carreno Busta for nine years and helped him reach No. 10 in the ATP Rankings, brings additional expertise to the team.

Recent Achievements and Coaching Philosophy

Ferrero’s coaching philosophy emphasizes unwavering belief and persistence. As he explains, “His strength is keeping believing all the time until the last ball is gone. And he tries and tries.” This mentality was evident during crucial moments in recent tournaments.

Under Ferrero’s guidance, Alcaraz has developed a more focused approach to his game. “Carlos is starting to focus more on himself and not on others, really finding his maximum level. He has to trust that when he fights at 100 per cent, with his maximum intensity, he can make others struggle,” Ferrero emphasizes.

Looking Ahead

The new coaching structure promises exciting developments for the future. As Alcaraz himself noted, “They trust each other 100 percent and being able to travel with both, for me, it’s going to be great. I think I’m going to grow as a player thanks to them. I think we are going to work pretty hard and pretty good for the next season and the next years. Hopefully we are going to make good results together.”

Ferrero’s assessment of Alcaraz’s current form is particularly promising: “It’s true that we’ve always known that he was very good in terms of his tennis, but the truth is that mentally I believe he’s better than ever, in terms of concentration and solidity. I’d say that at this tournament he’s starting to reach what maybe we can see as the huge potential he has.”
