A Triumphant Return to the Stage

The upcoming Broadway production of Yasmina Reza’s play ‘Art’ was James Corden’s own initiative, bringing together an exceptional cast. The production features Bobby Cannavale, James Corden, and Neil Patrick Harris in a sleek and sophisticated comedy directed by Scott Ellis.

A Story of Friendship and Art

The plot revolves around three longtime friends and what happens when one makes an extravagant purchase of a completely white painting, leading to intense arguments over what constitutes art. In the production, Neil Patrick Harris plays Serge, who buys the expensive painting, Bobby Cannavale takes on the role of Marc, who can’t stand the artwork, while Corden plays Yvan, who finds himself caught in the middle. Their debates about art and friendship leave the friends more confused than before.

Production Details and Star Power

The revival will begin performances at the Music Box Theatre on August 28, with an official opening on September 16. The limited engagement will run until December 21. Adding to the production’s artistic elements, Grammy Award winner Kid Harpoon has created original music for the revival.

A Notable Homecoming

For Corden, this marks a significant return to Broadway after 13 years—he previously won a Tony for ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ in 2012, and has since garnered 12 Emmys for various projects including ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’. According to director Scott Ellis, Corden was involved in the casting process, emphasizing his desire to work with “great actors” and specifically “stage actors.” The collaborative process showed Corden’s lack of ego, with both Cannavale and Harris proving to be perfect fits for their roles.
