A New Chapter in the Wizarding World

Warner Bros. has embarked on an ambitious new chapter in the Harry Potter franchise, with a massive TV series adaptation currently in development for HBO Max. The project, which was officially announced in 2023, marks a fresh adaptation of the Harry Potter novels for streaming audiences.

The series introduces a new generation of young actors, with Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton taking on the iconic roles of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, respectively – characters previously portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson in the film series.

Star-Studded Cast and Production Details

The series has assembled an impressive adult cast, including John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch. The creative team is led by showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod, both known for their work on ‘Succession’. Gardiner will serve as showrunner and executive producer, while Mylod will direct multiple episodes and executive produce.

Production Timeline and Format

The series is scheduled to premiere in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max, with production having begun in July 2025. Each of the seven Harry Potter books will constitute its own season, with filming on Season 1 expected to continue until spring 2026, followed by Season 2 after a brief break.

A Fresh Take on the Beloved Story

The series promises to be a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved books, featuring an exciting and talented cast to lead a new generation of fandom. It will explore every corner of the wizarding world and will stream exclusively on Max where available globally, including upcoming markets such as Turkey, the UK, Germany, and Italy. Fans can look forward to seeing characters that didn’t appear in the films, such as the mischievous poltergeist Peeves, and exploring new locations within Hogwarts, including the previously unseen staffroom.
