A New Chapter Begins

The sixteenth series of The Great British Bake Off premiered on September 2, 2025, on Channel 4, with the familiar faces of Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding as presenters, alongside judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

Meet the Class of 2025

This season features 12 contestants ranging in age from 23 to 59, bringing together an impressive mix of backgrounds including a scientist, an engineer, a medical student, an amateur drag king, and a pickled food enthusiast.

Among the standout contestants is Nataliia, who brings her Ukrainian heritage to the tent. Taught by her grandmother, she incorporates traditional family recipes into her baking, infusing classic British treats with distinctive flavors like honey, poppy seeds, nutmeg, and cinnamon.

Another notable baker is Pui Man, a perfectionist who applies her wedding dress design expertise to her baking. Originally from Hong Kong and now residing in Essex, she discovered her passion for baking during lockdown and has been dedicated to the craft ever since.

Jessika, who hails from Cornwall, brings innovation to the tent with her daring flavor combinations, such as salted mango caramel and cardamom. When not baking, she expresses her creativity through skating, cycling, and performing as a drag king.

Competition Format and Early Drama

Contestants face the traditional trinity of challenges each week: signature, technical, and showstopper. While familiar themes like Cake, Biscuit, Caramel, Bread, Pastry, Dessert, and Pâtisserie return, the previous season introduced new categories including Autumn and 1970s themes.

The competition has already seen its first elimination with Hassan’s departure. Upon leaving, he reflected, “I am a bit upset, but I did expect it. Everyone is such a phenomenal baker, they are all such lovely people. And even though it’s been a short-lived experience I have enjoyed it.”

Looking Ahead

While UK viewers can catch the show on Channel 4, international audiences can follow along on Netflix, where episodes are released three days after the UK broadcast. The show’s continued success has already secured its future, with confirmation of a seventeenth series planned for 2026.
