Historic Transfer Deal Marks New Chapter in Women’s Football

London City Lionesses have completed a blockbuster signing of France midfielder Grace Geyoro from Paris Saint-Germain, with the transfer fee reportedly around £1 million ($1.35 million), making her one of the world’s most expensive female players.

A Milestone Transfer in Women’s Football

The transfer represents a significant moment in women’s football, as 2025 has already seen the transfer record broken three times, starting with U.S. defender Naomi Girma’s move to Chelsea for $1.1 million and Canada striker Olivia Smith’s transfer to Arsenal for $1.3 million.

The move is particularly significant as London City is owned by American businesswoman Michele Kang, who heads Kynisca Sports International, a women-led, multi-team global sports organization. Kang, estimated by Forbes to be worth $1.2 billion, also owns Lyon and the Washington Spirit in the United States.

Geyoro’s Impressive Career Profile

Geyoro has established herself as one of the most influential midfielders in women’s football. Her journey from a young talent in France to a leader at Paris Saint-Germain and the French national team demonstrates her exceptional skill, leadership, and dedication. She is known for being a complete midfielder—defensively solid, tactically sharp, and capable of scoring goals.

The 28-year-old midfielder brings considerable experience to her new club, having made 102 appearances and scored 22 goals for France. She recently celebrated her 100th cap in a 2-1 victory over England at the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.

Impact on Women’s Super League

Geyoro represents the 16th and most significant signing made by London City Lionesses since their promotion to the WSL. The club has also secured other notable players, including England forward Nikita Parris, Jana Fernandez from Barcelona, and Danielle van de Donk from Lyon.

The 2025-26 WSL season begins Friday, with London City set to visit Arsenal for their opener on Saturday, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in women’s football history.
