Breaking News: Actor Found Guilty

A jury at St Albans Crown Court has convicted former actor John Alford of all charges following a week-long trial. The 53-year-old has been found guilty of sexually assaulting two teenage girls during a party at a friend’s home.

Background and Charges

The charges against Alford included four counts of sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl and charges of sexual assault and assault by penetration relating to a 15-year-old girl. The incidents occurred at a property in Hertfordshire on April 9, 2022.

According to court evidence, Alford arrived at the property intoxicated and proceeded to purchase and supply the victims with alcohol.

Career History

John Alford, born John James Shannon, is a British actor who gained fame for his roles as Robbie Wright in the BBC series Grange Hill (1985-90) and Billy Ray in the ITV series London’s Burning (1993-98).

Trial and Verdict

The 12-strong jury found Alford guilty on each of the six counts by a majority verdict of 10 to two. As the verdicts were read out in court, Alford put his head in his hand and shouted “Wrong, I didn’t do this” from the dock.

Investigator Laura Harrison from Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Sexual Offences Investigation Team noted that throughout the trial, Shannon (Alford) consistently denied any sexual activity and maintained that the victims were attempting to extort him for money—despite the fact that neither child knew who he was, as they were born long after his career began. At no point did he accept responsibility, admit guilt, or show any remorse for his actions.

Sentencing

The former actor will be sentenced for all six offences on 5 December 2025.
