Department for Education’s Transformative Agenda: Digital Innovation and Educational Excellence in 2025

The Evolution of Education in 2025
The Department for Education (DfE), as the ministerial department responsible for children’s services and education in England, oversees early years, schools, higher and further education policy, apprenticeships and wider skills. The department is supported by 17 agencies and public bodies.
Digital Transformation in Education
The Education Secretary has announced comprehensive plans for a digital revolution in schools, outlining how technology will transform teaching. The initiative aims to break down barriers to opportunity by ensuring every student and teacher can access essential tools and support for success.
A groundbreaking AI product safety framework has been established, featuring child-centered design and enhanced content filtering. This framework represents the most detailed set of safety expectations for AI in education globally. Teachers will receive new training and guidance to help them leverage AI’s time-saving benefits, reducing administrative burdens and allowing more focus on teaching.
School Improvement Initiatives
The government has announced new measures focusing on stronger accountability and increased intervention in underperforming schools. The Education Secretary’s plan builds on previous reforms and aims to break the link between background and success, ensuring every classroom has an excellent teacher, every school delivers a high-quality curriculum, and every parent can access a core offer of excellence.
The initiative includes a £20 million investment in new regional improvement teams (RISE teams), with up to £100,000 available to each struggling school for specialist support.
Skills and Construction Investment
A significant £600 million investment has been announced to train 60,000 more skilled construction workers, supporting the government’s goal of building 1.5 million homes by the end of Parliament. This includes £165 million of new funding for institutions to deliver construction courses, with £35 million specifically allocated for 16 to 19-year-old students in the 2026-27 academic year.
Looking Forward
The DfE’s vision focuses on building a comprehensive school system where all children can achieve and thrive. The department is committed to working with the government to design a system founded on excellence, equity, and inclusion.
