A Bold New Chapter in British Comedy

David Mitchell is set to return to television screens in a groundbreaking new series titled ‘Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping’, premiering on Channel 4 on 5 September. The show features an exciting collaboration with Taskmaster stars Stevie Martin and Kiell Smith-Bynoe, alongside Krystal Evans and Lara Ricote.

This innovative new venture marks a bold return to British sketch comedy, combining Mitchell and Webb’s established expertise with fresh talent. The show brings together an ensemble cast of next-generation writer/performers, creating an unprecedented merging of comedy minds across generations.

A Star-Studded Collaboration

Among the new talents joining the show is Krystal Evans, an American comedian based in the UK, whose debut show at Edinburgh Fringe in 2023 received exceptional reviews. Evans has already made her mark on British television, appearing in several BBC productions including Comedy Underground and Scot Squad.

The six-part series will be produced by That Mitchell & Webb Company in association with Big Talk Studios, with the BAFTA-winning duo’s long-standing Producer Gareth Edwards at the helm.

Industry Impact and Expectations

Industry leaders are celebrating this return to sketch comedy, with Big Talk Studios’ Chief Executive Kenton Allen describing it as “a rare comedy conservation success story.” The project is being viewed as a masterclass in comedy craft, with Mitchell and Webb leading what Allen calls a “comedic rescue mission.” The show promises to showcase both the established comedic talents and their brilliant new counterparts in their natural habitat.

This new project adds to Mitchell’s busy 2025 schedule, which includes his participation in the second series of LOL: Last One Laughing UK, set to air in 2026. The new Channel 4 show will see him and Webb working alongside an ensemble cast of next-generation writer/performers, including Kiell Smith-Bynoe, Lara Ricote, Stevie Martin, and Krystal Evans.
