Dame Maureen Lipman: New Beginnings at 78 – From Romance to Stage Returns
A New Chapter for Britain’s Beloved Dame
Dame Maureen Lipman, the celebrated actress known for her role as Evelyn Plummer in Coronation Street, has announced her engagement to partner David Turner. The 78-year-old actress took the initiative herself, proposing while on a train journey.
This marks a significant personal milestone for Dame Lipman, who was previously married to Coronation Street writer Jack Rosenthal from 1974 until his death in 2004. After losing her partner Guido Castro in January 2021, she had initially declared herself ‘against the M word’ (marriage). However, she has now had a change of heart with Mr. Turner.
Professional Endeavours and Upcoming Projects
The veteran actress is set to take a temporary break from Coronation Street to embrace a new theatrical challenge. She will be starring as Mrs Potty in the pantomime Beauty and the Beast at Richmond Theatre, performing alongside comedy magician Pete Firman as Silly Billy from December 7 to January 5, 2025.
Fans of Coronation Street need not worry, though, as her departure is only temporary. A spokesperson for the show has confirmed that Dame Maureen is taking a sabbatical and will return to the cobbles in 2025.
