A County on the Rise

County Kildare, situated in the eastern and midland region of Ireland within the province of Leinster, stands as the seventh-largest county by population in Ireland.

Excellence in Planning and Development

In a significant achievement, Kildare County Council has been shortlisted in four categories at the Irish Planning Institute’s Planning Awards 2025, highlighting their commitment to excellence in planning and sustainable development.

The Council has significantly expanded its capabilities, now boasting 32 dedicated planners and new multi-disciplinary teams, including specialists in ecology, urban design, and biodiversity.

Innovative Environmental Initiatives

The county is actively addressing climate change through three transformative planning-led projects: the Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) Guidance Document, Permeability Guidelines, and Allotments and Community Gardens Strategy. These initiatives position the Planning Department as a leader in environmentally responsible placemaking in Ireland.

Housing and Community Development

A major development is underway with a €17 million residential scheme in Osberstown, Sallins, which will deliver 99 residential units and include a childcare facility.

Future Outlook

Looking ahead, Kildare County Council continues to work closely with elected members, key stakeholders, and the community to shape a sustainable future for its citizens, businesses, visitors, and communities, with a focus on meaningful engagement and transparent planning.

The county’s vision remains focused on delivering sustainable and accessible economic, social, and physical development to meet the needs of its growing and diverse population while attracting the resources and investment necessary for continued sustainable growth.
