Co-op Live Arena: Manchester’s Revolutionary Venue Leads European Entertainment Scene

A New Entertainment Powerhouse
Co-op Live, Manchester’s groundbreaking indoor arena located in the Etihad Campus, has established itself as the UK’s premier entertainment venue, featuring 32 bars, restaurants and lounges, and boasting the largest floor space of any comparable arena in the country.
Since its opening in May 2024, the venue has achieved remarkable success, selling 1,102,104 tickets and generating $115,557,164 in gross revenues, surpassing both Madrid’s Movistar Arena and London’s O2 in terms of ticket sales revenue.
Sustainable Innovation and Local Impact
The venue has demonstrated strong commitment to sustainability, operating as a Net Zero Scope 1 and 2 facility. It runs entirely on electric power, features rainwater collection systems, and maintains a zero landfill waste policy, making it one of Europe’s most sustainable venues.
The project has significantly benefited the local community, with approximately 80% of construction work completed by businesses from Manchester and the Northwest region. The investment has channeled nearly £200 million directly into the local community.
Star-Studded Calendar and Future Prospects
The venue’s upcoming schedule for 2025 features an impressive lineup of international artists, including Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Olivia Rodrigo, Robbie Williams, Iron Maiden, Lady Gaga with her Mayhem Ball, and Billie Eilish with four nights of her Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour.
According to venue management, ticket sales have been phenomenal, with impressive reach across the UK. Up to 30% of attendees travel more than 100 kilometers to attend events, while 50% journey more than 50 kilometers, demonstrating the venue’s broad appeal.
Economic Impact and Community Benefits
The venue contributes approximately £1 million annually to good causes across the UK through the Co-op Foundation. It leads Manchester’s zero carbon agenda and addresses food poverty through its zero-food waste initiative. The Co-op actively supports apprenticeships and provides employment opportunities through its six secondary and college academies across Greater Manchester.
In a recent development, the venue has received approval for a new canalside expansion, which will include a two-storey structure housing a café, bar, kitchen, and merchandise store. This additional space will accommodate around 600 people and serve as a second standalone events venue, while also being available for community and private hire use.
