A Historic Royal Reunion

In a significant development at Clarence House, Prince Harry met with his father King Charles III on September 11, 2025, marking their first meeting in 19 months. The Duke of Sussex attended a private tea with the king, following a period of estrangement.

Clarence House’s Royal Heritage

Located on The Mall in the City of Westminster, London, Clarence House stands as a prestigious royal residence. The property was originally constructed between 1825 and 1827, adjacent to St James’s Palace, for the then-Duke of Clarence, who later became King William IV.

Currently serving as the London residence of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the house will continue to be their London home until at least 2027, during the ongoing renovations of Buckingham Palace. During this period, Buckingham Palace remains the administrative headquarters for the monarchy and the venue for state events.

A House of Memories

The historic residence holds significant royal memories, having served as the London home of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother from 1953 until 2002. It was also once home to Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip following their marriage in 1947. The house maintains much of its historical character, with many rooms and their contents remaining as they were during Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother’s time.

Recent Diplomatic Significance

Beyond family matters, Clarence House continues to serve as a venue for important royal duties. Recently, King Charles conducted significant business there, including investing Holocaust survivor and educator Manfred Goldberg with his MBE in a private audience, and holding his weekly audience with the Prime Minister.

Breaking with tradition, King Charles chose to maintain Clarence House as his London residence after becoming King in 2022, though there are suggestions that he and Queen Camilla may eventually move to Buckingham Palace once the extensive renovations there are completed.

Looking Forward

Recent developments suggest potential for positive change in royal relationships, with sources indicating a “determination on both sides” to make reconciliation work. While broader family issues remain to be addressed, the focus appears to be on beginning with healing the relationship between Charles and Harry.
