Tournament Overview

The DP World Tour’s flagship event, the 2025 BMW PGA Championship, is set to take place at Wentworth Club, Surrey, England, from September 9-14, 2025. The tournament represents a crucial stage in the 2025 Race to Dubai, featuring as event number four on the Back 9 series.

Prize Money and Prestige

The tournament maintains its impressive $9 million purse, the largest bounty on the DP World Tour outside of major championships and the season-ending Tour Championship. The winner will secure $1.53 million, while the runner-up will receive just under $1 million.

Star-Studded Field

The event has attracted an impressive lineup, including defending champion Billy Horschel and Masters Tournament winner Rory McIlroy. They will be joined by fellow Green Jacket winners Jon Rahm, Patrick Reed, and Danny Willett. Adding to the stellar field is Tommy Fleetwood, making his first appearance since claiming victory in the PGA TOUR’s FedExCup at the TOUR Championship at East Lake.

Venue and Course Details

The legendary Harry Colt-designed West Course at Wentworth, which has hosted the PGA Championship since 1984, has undergone extensive remodeling in recent years, overseen by seven-time Match Play champion Ernie Els. The course features greens reseeded with creeping bentgrass and equipped with sub-air systems for improved firmness and speed. The challenging layout is characterized by tall trees lining the fairways and numerous doglegs, making it a demanding test of driving skills.

Tournament Format and Schedule

As part of the prestigious Rolex Series of events on the 2025 DP World Tour season calendar, the tournament will feature six days of action, combining world-class golf with a Celebrity Pro-Am and live entertainment. The field will consist of approximately 126 players, with 65 making the cut and earning a share of the prize money.

Significance and Impact

While the U.S. Ryder Cup team prepares at the PGA Tour’s Procore Championship, the European team members will be competing at the BMW PGA Championship, adding extra significance to the tournament. The event’s status as the DP World Tour’s flagship event continues to draw a star-studded field each year.
