Boxing Legend Returns to the Ring

Former two-weight world champion Billy Joe Saunders (30-1, 14 KOs) has announced his return to professional boxing four years after his last fight. The former WBO middle and super-middleweight champion has set his sights on becoming a three-weight world champion.

Training Camp Underway

Saunders is currently preparing for his comeback at the Apollo Champ in Phuket, Thailand’s premier boxing training camp. He has been training there for over a month alongside heavyweight Senad Gashi, and is expected to continue his preparation until April.

Distinguished Career and Achievements

Saunders holds the distinction of being the first fighter from the Travelling community to win world championships in two weight classes. His impressive career includes holding the WBO middleweight title from 2015 to 2018 and the WBO super-middleweight title from 2019 to 2021. At the regional level, he dominated the European, British, and Commonwealth middleweight divisions between 2012 and 2015.

New Division, New Challenges

His comeback will take place in the light-heavyweight division, where he’ll join fellow British fighters including Callum Smith, Joshua Buatsi, Anthony Yarde, Zach Parker, Craig Richards, and Willy Hutchinson.

The Road Ahead

Saunders is planning to launch his comeback this September in the light heavyweight division. While he has expressed his goal of becoming world champion at 175 pounds, industry insiders suggest he may be targeting a lucrative rematch with Chris Eubank Jr. in Riyadh.
