The Return of a Hit Series

Since its 2021 debut, Only Murders in the Building has become a cultural juggernaut, breaking records as the most-watched comedy premiere in Hulu history and later becoming the most-watched comedy ever on Hulu.

Release Schedule and Format

The highly anticipated fifth season will premiere on September 9, 2025, on Hulu, with the first three episodes available at launch. Subsequent episodes will release weekly on Tuesdays until the finale on October 28, 2025, following a 10-episode format.

The New Mystery

Season 5 follows Charles, Oliver, and Mabel as they investigate the suspicious death of the Arconia’s longtime doorman, Lester. The character’s death was revealed in the Season 4 finale, setting up the trio’s next case. According to Hulu’s official synopsis, their investigation will plunge them into the shadowy corners of New York and beyond, where they’ll uncover a dangerous web of secrets connecting powerful billionaires, old-school mobsters, and the mysterious residents of the Arconia.

Star-Studded Cast

Alongside the main trio, familiar faces returning include Michael Cyril Creighton as Howard, Jackie Hoffman as Uma, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph as Detective Donna Williams. Meryl Streep will return as Loretta, Richard Kind will reprise his role as Vince Fish, and Nathan Lane’s Teddy Dimas will be back as well.

The new season brings an impressive lineup of newcomers, including Keegan Michael Key, Renée Zellweger, Christoph Waltz, Logan Lerman, Jermaine Fowler, Beanie Feldstein, Bobby Cannavale, and Dianne West.

Production and Location

Production began in March 2025, with filming taking place at several iconic New York locations. The cast recently filmed scenes on Staten Island near the famous house used in The Godfather. The Arconia’s exterior shots continue to use The Belnord, a 13-story apartment building located on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

Future Prospects

The show’s creator Hoffman has expressed hope to continue making as many seasons as possible, noting the cast and crew’s enthusiasm for the project. With the show’s continued success and critical acclaim, Hulu has shown strong interest in continuing the series beyond season five.
