A New Era for iPhone Software

Apple has unveiled iOS 26, a major update that brings a beautiful new design, intelligent experiences, and improvements to the apps users rely on every day.

Revolutionary Design Overhaul

The most significant change in iOS 26 is a bold visual transformation called ‘Liquid Glass,’ which creates a translucent effect that mimics the qualities of glass. This new interface is translucent and behaves like real glass, allowing light and color to shine through while subtly reflecting light when users move their iPhone.

Enhanced Intelligence and Communication

Apple Intelligence elevates the iPhone experience with new ways to communicate and interact with content. A standout feature is Live Translation, which is integrated into Messages, FaceTime, and Phone, enabling real-time text and audio translation across languages. Importantly, these translations are processed entirely on-device to maintain user privacy.

Improved Phone Experience

The Phone app has received a comprehensive update with a unified layout combining Favorites, Recents, and Voicemails in one place. New features include Call Screening, which helps eliminate interruptions by gathering caller information, and Hold Assist, which notifies users when a live agent becomes available.

Release and Compatibility

iOS 26 is scheduled for public release on September 16, 2025, just one week after the iPhone 17 event. The update will be released simultaneously worldwide. The new operating system will be compatible with all iPhones released since 2019, including iPhone 11, iPhone SE (2nd gen) and later models.

Looking Ahead

This marks the first major design change that Apple has introduced to iOS since iOS 7, with Apple stating that the new ‘Liquid Glass’ look will serve as the foundation for iOS design over the next decade. Developers will have access to new APIs featuring Liquid Glass materials and components, enabling them to create equally dynamic and engaging apps.
