Strategic Innovation Hub Takes Shape

Zalaegerszeg is set to establish a groundbreaking joint research and testing centre for smart vehicles and energy storage, partnering with China in a project that aims to expand Hungary’s role in green innovation.

The new international centre, announced by ZalaZONE Automotive Proving Ground, will focus on research, development, testing, and certification of intelligent new-energy vehicles and energy storage systems. This collaborative initiative brings together Hungarian expertise with Chinese partners, including the China-US Green Fund and Zhongzhi Zhitong Testing Technology Co Ltd, to serve markets across America, Asia, and Europe.

Military and Industrial Development

Zalaegerszeg has become a crucial link in Hungary’s chain of military-industrial centers, joining other strategic locations such as Győr, Kaposvár, Várpalota, Kiskunfélegyháza, and Gyula.

Advanced Testing Facilities

The ZalaZONE test track, constructed on 265 hectares following a 2016 government decision, specializes in evaluating electric and autonomous vehicles. The facility’s latest test module, inaugurated in May, reinforces ZalaZONE’s strategic position in shaping Europe’s sustainable mobility future.

The facility has entered a new phase where commercial activities are becoming as important as research goals. To sustain its growth, ZalaZONE is actively expanding partnerships with universities, research institutions, government agencies, and private enterprises across various sectors including energy, automotive, agriculture, and defence.

Tourism and Cultural Heritage

The city maintains its cultural appeal with attractions like the Disz Square, while the TV tower offers visitors panoramic views from its observation decks and features a café serving beverages, sweets, and souvenirs.

This transformation positions Zalaegerszeg as a key player in Hungary’s technological and industrial future, while maintaining its historical and cultural significance in the region.
