A Historic Clash of Boxing Titans

An extraordinary boxing event is set to unfold as Mexican undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Álvarez prepares to face American former undisputed welterweight and light welterweight champion Terence Crawford for the undisputed super middleweight championship of the world.

The highly anticipated bout is scheduled for September 13, 2025, at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, with Álvarez putting his historic position as the only boxer to hold the undisputed super middleweight title on the line.

Championship Credentials

Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, the Mexican professional boxer, has established himself as a dominant force in boxing, holding multiple world championships across four weight classes. His achievement in becoming the first and only boxer to secure the undisputed super middleweight championship in 2021 was further enhanced when he claimed the title for a second time in May 2025.

Canelo (63-2-2, 39 KOs) will defend his WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF super middleweight titles against the undefeated Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs). Crawford, ESPN’s third-ranked pound-for-pound boxer, will be ending a yearlong hiatus, having last fought in August 2024 when he captured the WBA junior middleweight title from Israil Madrimov.

Making History

The stakes are particularly high for Crawford, who could make history as the first male boxer to become a three-division undisputed champion in the ‘four-belt era.’ A victory would also make him one of only six male fighters in history to capture titles in five divisions, and one of just three to claim the lineal championship in four weight classes.

The Ring magazine has created an exclusive belt for the winner, with an unprecedented value of $188,000. In a groundbreaking move for boxing, the fight will be streaming live globally on Netflix, with no traditional pay-per-view model.

Adding to the intrigue, neither fighter has ever been knocked down across their combined 765 rounds of professional boxing. As the promoters have dubbed it, this isn’t just a fight—it’s a battle for legacy that truly transcends titles.
