A New Chapter for BBC’s Beloved Weather Presenter

Carol Kirkwood, BBC Breakfast’s veteran weather presenter, has recently addressed speculation about her potential departure from the broadcaster after 27 years of service. The 63-year-old, while not quite ready to retire, has begun sharing her aspirations for the future.

The BBC Breakfast stalwart has hinted at the possibility of not reaching her 30th anniversary with the programme, expressing interest in relocating to the Spanish island of Majorca. This consideration comes during what has been a transformative period in her personal life.

Professional Excellence and Recent Achievements

Kirkwood’s exceptional career has been marked by numerous accolades, including multiple TRIC Awards for Best TV Weather Presenter – winning in 2003, 2008, 2009, and consecutively from 2012 to 2017. She was also honored with an Honorary Fellowship from Princess Anne at Inverness College for her contributions to broadcasting.

Currently balancing her career with personal life, Kirkwood manages a demanding schedule that allows just 90 minutes daily with her husband due to their respective commitments. Despite the time constraints, the couple makes every moment count, though juggling their busy careers presents its challenges.

Beyond Weather Forecasting

Kirkwood has successfully ventured into writing, with her debut novel “Under a Greek Moon” receiving praise from colleagues, including former co-worker Steph McGovern who called it “an absolute cracking read.” She has since published “The Hotel on the Riveria” and “Secrets of the Villa Amore”.

While discussing her future plans, Kirkwood remains passionate about her current role, recently expressing her continued love for presenting the weather. As she noted in Radio Times, “There will be a day, obviously, when that [retirement] happens, but for now I still love the weather.”
