From Nonnatus House to Holby City: Olly Rix’s New Chapter in British Television Drama

A Dramatic Career Shift
Olly Rix has officially moved on from Call The Midwife, taking on a new role as Clinical Lead Flynn Byron in both Casualty and its spin-off show, Internal Affairs.
The Transition Period
In a recent exclusive interview, the 40-year-old actor candidly discussed his departure from Call The Midwife, revealing he ‘didn’t like the way it ended’ and felt he wasn’t ‘treated with much integrity or respect’ during the process.
In his new role, Flynn’s character promises to bring excitement to Casualty, ‘crashing into the world from a very different background.’ The BBC has revealed that Flynn joins the NHS after a tour of duty, facing the challenge of implementing change in a bureaucracy-heavy system while dealing with personal trauma and a mysterious ‘deception’ that could potentially be his downfall.
Life After Call The Midwife
Following his departure from the period drama, Rix has relocated to Cardiff, where he now plays Dr Byron in Casualty. The move holds special significance for the actor, who was born in Cardiff and spent his first year there. He describes the return as ‘poetic,’ stating, ‘I feel like I’ve come home somehow,’ and praising Cardiff as ‘such a lovely city.’
Looking to the Future
Despite the challenges of his transition, Rix maintains a positive outlook, acknowledging his fortune in his career and expressing his belief in moving forward and developing new work. During this period of change, he found unexpected support in his new companion, his beloved pup Nellie, who came into his life around the time he left the programme. As he puts it, ‘I feel like I know what it’s like to be saved by a dog,’ noting how common it is for people to find that a dog enters their life precisely when needed.
