Expanded Formula 1 Coverage on BBC Radio

BBC Radio 5 Live has secured exclusive UK audio rights for Formula 1 from 2025 to 2027, with comprehensive coverage spanning qualifying and practice sessions, starting with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

Enhanced Broadcasting Experience

According to Heidi Dawson, Controller of BBC Radio 5 Live and 5 Sports Extra, the coverage aims to bring F1 fans closer to the action across BBC Radio 5 Live, 5 Sports Extra, and BBC Sounds. The broadcast team includes experienced presenters Jennie Gow and Rosanna Tennant, with Harry Benjamin taking the lead commentator role alongside Ben Edwards.

The coverage will be enhanced by expert analysis from an impressive lineup including former F1 World Champion Damon Hill, current McLaren Formula E driver Sam Bird, former W-Series driver Alice Powell, and ex-F1 race mechanic Marc Priestley.

Broader F1 Broadcasting Landscape

In the UK television landscape, viewers can watch every race live on Sky Sports F1, while Channel 4 provides highlights coverage. The British Grand Prix remains the only race broadcast live on free-to-air television in the UK through Channel 4.

2025 Season Overview

The 2025 F1 season features a record-equaling 24 race calendar, with the season opener scheduled for March 16 in Australia. The season has seen McLaren drivers dominating thus far, with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris showing impressive form.

Fans can also look forward to in-depth analysis and discussion through the BBC’s Chequered Flag podcast, which will continue to provide the latest interviews, reaction, and reports from the world of Formula 1.
