A New Chapter for Big Thief

Big Thief is set to release their sixth studio album, ‘Double Infinity,’ through 4AD on September 5, 2025. The album was recorded at New York City’s Power Station studio and features collaborations with ambient musician Laraaji, singers Alena Spanger, Hannah Cohen, June McDoom, and jazz bassist Joshua Crumbly.

Musical Evolution and Band Changes

The band underwent a significant change in 2024 with the departure of founding bassist Max Oleartchik, a decision that was made for ‘interpersonal reasons with mutual respect in our hearts’. In the interim period since their last album, each band member has pursued solo projects, with Adrianne Lenker releasing ‘Bright Future’ in 2024, Buck Meek sharing ‘Haunted Mountain,’ and James Krivchenia releasing two albums: ‘Blood Karaoke’ and ‘Performing Belief’.

The Somersault Slide 360 Tour

The band has announced their ‘Somersault Slide 360 Tour,’ marking their first major North American tour since 2023. The tour follows their acclaimed 2022 album ‘Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You’ and promises an adventurous and dynamic slate of performances that align with the band’s groundbreaking musical style.

Album Themes and Critical Reception

On ‘Double Infinity,’ the spiritually-minded indie rock band wrestles with profound questions such as ‘How do we age when time is infinite?’ and ‘Who are we sitting with when we’re alone?’ Following the album’s release, the band will embark on an extensive tour that includes performances at prestigious venues such as Berkeley’s The Greek Theater, Los Angeles’s The Hollywood Bowl (their largest non-festival headline show to date), Boston’s MGM Music Hall, New York’s Forest Hills Stadium, and their Mexican debut at Teatro Metropolitan.
