New Delhi’s Transformation: Major Projects and Developments Reshaping India’s Capital in 2025

A Capital in Transformation
New Delhi, the capital of India, serves as the seat of all three branches of the Government of India, hosting the Rashtrapati Bhavan (Presidential Palace), Sansad Bhavan (Parliament House), and the Supreme Court.
The city’s urban agglomeration, which includes satellite cities in the National Capital Region (NCR), boasts an estimated population of over 28 million, making it the largest metropolitan area in India and the second-largest globally after Tokyo. The region ranks fifth among Indian states and union territories in human development index.
Major Infrastructure Developments
Delhi stands at the cusp of a major transformation, with several infrastructure projects promising to reshape the capital’s urban landscape. These projects, spanning public transport, traffic decongestion, healthcare, and connectivity, are between 70 to 90 percent complete.
A significant development is the new Delhi Terminal 1 at IGI Airport, scheduled to begin operations in December 2025. This terminal, designed to handle both international and domestic flights, will have the capacity to host over 40 million passengers annually.
Healthcare and Transportation Initiatives
The capital’s healthcare infrastructure is undergoing a major upgrade with eleven new hospitals at various stages of development. Notable progress includes the Jwalapuri facility at 90% completion, Madipur at 82%, and Siraspur at 78%.
The Delhi Metro continues to expand, now comprising ten operational lines covering 353.23 km with 257 stations, serving not only Delhi but also neighboring cities like Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurgaon, and Noida.
Tech Hub and Innovation
The city is emerging as a technology hub, with major companies like OpenAI establishing presence in the capital. The company is setting up a local team and corporate office in New Delhi, having already appointed key executives including former Truecaller and Meta executive Pragya Misra as its public policy lead, and former Twitter India head Rishi Jaitly as a senior advisor.
Looking ahead, New Delhi will host the 23rd edition of Routes Asia, strengthening its position in advancing air service development across the Asia-Pacific region, while driving economic growth and showcasing India’s potential.
